Updated Information About The 24th Deaflympic Games 2021

Information from the Brazilian Organising Committee

This morning we received the latest information about the games which can be seen here: http://www.deaflympics.com/pdf/109-of-05-11-2020-ext053-2020-for-icsd-members-all.pdf We will be looking into the communications which were apparently sent in July and will share any other information we receive following this update.

UK Deaf Sport progress update

  1. Insurance

I have had a number of conversations with our insurers about the games and the aspects surrounding it including transport, health and accommodation. The immediate concern flagged by the insurers is that there are not many insurance covers being provided which cover covid-19. I am waiting for further information from the insurers with what options are available to us should we decide to take a team.

  1. Performance Advisory Group

As we are yet to appoint a chef de mission to support this work of bringing all the information together, I am in regular contact with the members of the UKDS Performance Advisory Group. I am still working on the risk register and budget for the games and do hope to be able to share with you all in due course. We have a PAG meeting scheduled next week to discuss Deaflympics further.

  1. UKDS Board Meeting

We have a meeting scheduled for 21st November where I will be presenting an update to the Board on what progress, work and questions we have about the Deaflympic Games in 2021. This meeting will be after the first key deadline of 15th November when UKDS needs to submit which team sports will be looking to attend the games – see below.

  1. Communication with ICSD

We have drafted a letter to send to ICSD this week which once approved will be shared with you all. One of the key requests we have asked that the games be postponed to 2022. An extraordinary congress is likely to be held early next year but we, alongside other countries have asked that a decision about the postponement of the games be made by 15th January 2021.

Key dates
The following dates were provided to us from ICSD for the decisions to submit which sports will be sending teams to the Deaflympics:

Preliminary Entry for Team Sports (OPEN)
Extended: 15 November 2020

Preliminary Entry (CLOSE)
Open since 16 November 2020
Close: 15 March 2021

Final Entry with Names (CLOSE)
Open: 05 September 2021
Close: 05 November 2021

2. Registration Fee for participation:
- ICSD Fee - USD $60 for each athlete and official
- 2021 Summer Deaflympics OC - USD $100 for each member of the sports delegation.

Team Withdrawal Date: Up to 15 November 2020 - Penalty Fee = None

** There is no information being given by ICSD or the Organising committee about when registration fees need to be paid so we have asked about this.

Athlete Selection

Gwynne – I know you have asked about what the qualification times/selection criteria are for each of the sport which I have relayed to you in the past but I hope the following information helps:

  • Each sport is responsible for their own selection criteria. I am in touch with each sport about this and once we have these we will share with you, Fiona and Nathan

  • The details about the Technical regulations for each sport can be found here: http://deaflympics.com/games/2021-s
